WEEKEND TIP #5: The Monocle Guide to…

🇸🇰Takzvané “coffee table books” milujem. Pekné veľké knihy v tvrdej väzbe. Dokonalé médium. Nemusíš ich čítať od prvej strany po poslednú; raz za čas si ich proste prelistuješ, prečítaš veci, čo ťa zaujmú a si vizuálne ukojený.

“The Monocle Guides to…” patria medzi moje najobľúbenejšie. Monocle Guide to Better Living sme dostali ako svadobný dar od našich kamarátov. A odvtedy sme ju ako (nielen) svadobný dar aj veľakrát darovali. Ako žiť lepšie – konkrétne príklady miest, produktov, aktivít, cestovania… Ale aj eseje, čo napríklad robí z určitého mesta najlepšie miesto pre život. Nikdy som si neuvedomil, akú rolu môže hrať v kvalite života dopravné značenie alebo prehľadnosť mestskej dopravy.

Na to naväzujú aj ďalšie dve (a niekoľko iných, ktoré nemáme): Monocle Guide to Good Business a Monocle Guide to Drinking & Dining.

Monocle je proste tutovka. To sa týka nielen tejto série kníh, ale aj samotného magazínu, ich City Guides či The Escapist.

🇪🇺I love “coffee table books”. Oversized hard-covered books. Amazing medium. You don’t have to read it from the first page to the last; just browse through every once in a while, read what catches your attention and get an instant visual satisfaction.

“The Monocle Guides to…” belong to my most favorite. We got the Monocle Guide to Better Living as a wedding present from my mates. And since then, we gifted it as (not only a wedding) gift to many of our friends. How to live better – specific examples of places, services, products or activities. As well as essays on what makes a great city. For example, I never thought how important role play street signage or simplicity of public transport in the quality of life.

There are two more (and few which we don’t have) amazing ones: Monocle Guide to Good Business and Monocle Guide to Deinking & Dining.

Monocle is always an ace. Not only this series of books but also their Magazine, the city guides or The Escapist.
